We know that domestic abuse is devastatingly common. 1.7 million women experience domestic abuse every year, and with three women being killed a fortnight by a current or ex-partner, so much needs to change before women are safe.<\/p>

Come Together to End Domestic Abuse<\/strong>\u00a0is the Women\u2019s Aid 50th\u00a0birthday campaign \u2013 the organisation celebrated its 50th\u00a0in 2024, and we launched to demonstrate how we can make a difference if we come together across society and across communities to do what we can.<\/p>

We know that\u00a0there is no silver bullet or magic wand that will solve the significant societal issue that\u00a0is domestic abuse \u2013 as experts working in this for nearly half a century, we know that is the reality. Domestic abuse affects people throughout society and at every stage of life \u2013 what we need is for people to come together,\u00a0to step up,\u00a0and do what they can do in their communities and workplaces to end domestic abuse. And we need to reach all women and children, and ensure we are as accessible as possible in our work. As part of Women’s Aid’s 50th birthday, we are asking everyone if they will Come Together to End Domestic Abuse;\u00a0women, men and young people together.<\/p>

The campaign launched on 5th July 2024 with our patron Mel B, who recently was\u00a0awarded an MBE<\/a>\u00a0for her services to vulnerable women and charity, and Dame Julie Walters. Mel will set out her \u201ccharter for survivors\u201d as part of the campaign.<\/p>

The campaign will measure attitudinal change and provide evidence for what we need to change, as well as the reach of the campaign during the coming two\u00a0years.<\/p>

We presented the campaign at our\u00a0national conference\u00a0in July to our members across England, who consist of just under 170 local domestic abuse organisations, providing refuges, helplines and domestic abuse services in the community across the country.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

“Everyone needs to understand what coercive control is. Only since 2015, when the coercive control law was introduced in England and Wales, are we starting to realise how common it is in abusive relationships. For me, talking about my experiences has meant that I no longer feel guilt and shame, but healing and confidence, because I know I can help others.<\/p>

Domestic abuse happens across society, which means we have to stand up together and call it out \u2013 help survivors now, raise awareness to save lives and raise money where we can. We have to keep these lifesaving services going. I know how much Women\u2019s Aid has helped me, and I will do everything in my power to bring people together on an issue that couldn\u2019t be closer to my heart.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

5 things everyone can do:\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>

1.\u202f\u00a0Make a change where you are<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 workplace, school, sports club \u2013 is there a domestic abuse policy? Is there a\u00a0poster<\/a>\u00a0in the bathroom or in communal spaces on how to\u00a0get help<\/a>? Has anyone had\u00a0domestic abuse training?\u202f\u202fHow about nominating\u00a0Women\u2019s Aid training<\/strong>\u00a0in your workplace?\u00a0<\/a>For more information, contact our fundraising team on\u00a0fundraising@womensaid.org.uk<\/a>.<\/p>

2.\u202f\u00a0Dispel myths about domestic abuse and challenge sexism<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 domestic abuse doesn\u2019t happen because you provoked them, and it isn\u2019t your fault if you are being abused by your partner \u2013 sexist attitudes to women\u2019s roles and men\u2019s role must be challenged to end domestic abuse.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>

3.\u202f\u00a0Take action, your voice counts<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0join campaigns<\/a>\u00a0for better protection for survivors or\u00a0fundraise<\/a>\u00a0to enable us to make a change. You can put on an event or take part in a challenge. You can also donate to Women\u2019s Aid\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0or your local member organisations find yours\u00a0here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

4.\u202f\u00a0Learn what to say to someone experiencing abuse<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 understand the reasons why it may not be easy to just leave.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>

5.\u202f\u00a0Speak Up<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 show we are standing up against domestic abuse together, send use photos and stories about what you are doing in your local area or online to help stop domestic abuse and\u00a0support survivors<\/a>.
