Nikki Bradley, Director of Delivery at Women\u2019s Aid, comments:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cFollowing\u00a0the\u00a0Supreme Court ruling around\u00a0the\u00a0definition of\u00a0\u2018sex\u2019\u00a0in the Equality Act,\u00a0Women\u2019s\u00a0Aid\u00a0issued initial guidance to all members\u00a0to\u00a0support them with\u00a0their\u00a0understanding\u00a0of the decision and its\u00a0implications for\u00a0the\u00a0vital\u00a0work that they do. Since then, we have\u00a0been working extensively with our legal team and experts within the sector to\u00a0continue\u00a0supporting\u00a0member services and\u00a0to\u00a0develop robust guidance in this area\u00a0which\u00a0is legally compliant\u00a0and\u00a0responds to\u00a0questions\u00a0our\u00a0members have posed.<\/span><\/p>\n We welcome the news that the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is soon to publish its amended Code of Practice following the complex judgements made in courts and a period of discussion, leading to consequent changes and amendments. This should help organisations who are busy on the frontline saving lives, and who often do not have their own legal teams, stay within the law whilst continuing their important work to support survivors of domestic abuse. We will also share updated guidance with our network, to ensure that our members feel confident about their legal obligations.
